Job Purpose: To lead the development and management of the Lower Primary Learning Resource Centre as a vibrant hub for literacy, learning and inquiry by fostering a culture of reading, supporting curriculum delivery, and providing equitable access to high-quality print and digital learning resources. The Librarian will inspire every learner to become a confident, curious and lifelong learner while ensuring the effective organisation, management and continuous development of the library's resources, services and systems. Key Duties & Responsibilities The Lower Primary Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Librarian shall: Library & Resource Management Lead the effective management and continuous development of the Learning Resource Centre. Organise, catalogue and maintain print, digital and multimedia resources. Maintain accurate library records, circulation data and inventory. Recommend the acquisition, replacement and disposal of learning resources. Ensure the library provides a safe, welcoming and engaging learning environment. Literacy & Curriculum Support Foster a culture of reading through engaging literacy programmes and reading initiatives. Collaborate with teachers to provide curriculum-aligned learning resources. Support inquiry-based learning through appropriate print and digital resources. Create themed displays and resource collections that enrich classroom learning. Learner Development Teach learners age-appropriate library, information and digital literacy skills. Inspire curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and independent learning. Guide learners in the responsible and ethical use of information and technology. Provide a welcoming environment where every learner feels encouraged to read and explore. Innovation & Community Engagement Promote the integration of appropriate digital learning resources into library services. Keep abreast of emerging trends in literacy, children's literature and educational technology. Partner with teachers and parents to promote reading and lifelong learning. Coordinate literacy events and reading campaigns across the school. Minimum requirements Education A Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science, Information Studies or a related field from a recognised institution. Training in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education or Literacy Development will be an added advantage. Experience of working in a library, preferably in a school environment. Experience The ideal candidate should have: Experience in a school library or Learning Resource Centre, preferably in a primary school setting. Demonstrated experience in promoting reading, literacy and library programmes for young learners. Experience collaborating with teachers to support curriculum delivery and enhance teaching and learning. Proficiency in using library management systems, Microsoft Office applications and digital learning resources. Experience working in a Competency-Based Education (CBE) environment will be an added advantage. Skills, Knowledge & Competencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners, staff and parents. A passion for children's literature, literacy development and fostering a lifelong love of reading. Strong organisational, planning and time management skills, with attention to detail. Proficiency in library management systems, Microsoft Office applications and digital learning technologies. Knowledge of library classification, cataloguing and information management practices. The ability to collaborate effectively with teachers to support curriculum delivery and learner achievement. Creativity and innovation in designing engaging literacy programmes and learning experiences. Strong problem-solving, initiative and decision-making skills.
